What’s missing in today’s youth is passion of what they are doing. Majority still of the young generation of today normally survive only within the guidelines or boundaries of their parents and teachers and then, their daily life is molded in the same boxes of the tradition or trend. On the other hand, apparently, their customary family life does not accept their creativity and changes even if they know and realize what they love doing. With this, they have to face with more than one or two struggles to let them try and strive for their dreams and ambitions though they have such strong desire to follow them.

According to Gallup’s study of the State of the Global Workplace in 142 countries, only 13 % of employees worldwide are engaged at work. The other huge amount of actively disengaged employees might lead to the low-productivity and growth in their companies and industries. Otherwise, they will not have strong enthusiasm to deal with miscommunication, unexpected changes and outcomes as well as work load and pressure in their workplace.

Why Passion is Important to Your Career?

Passion itself is focusing on what you care about, not what is fun. Let’s consider the German word for passion, “leidenschaft” which can be translated into “the ability to hardship”. This means that you can literally face with struggles and downs of your work when you possess the genuine willingness of what you are doing. Although passion alone might be weak at employee’s performance at their work, the combination of passion and perseverance can lead the employees to their goals even in the hardship and difficulties.

The founder of “Travel with Me” (a youth-led tourism information centre and organization) created a space to help the youths in finding their interest and sharing their diverse views about social issues and changes. The founder started it in 2016 only with four youth core team members and with the earning money from his internship to hold events under its sub-program of walking tour which is called “Just around you”. He then held networking events and tourism events in Yangon with free of charge for youths especially on every Special Days. The organization has then made partnerships not only with other youth-led organizations and enterprises but also with news and media agencies, hence, its walking tour programs are broadcasted in some media channels. This is a very good example of how passion can drive a youth from zero to hero of his dream job and goal.

How your passion can break down your harshness and struggles?

Psychologists distinguish that a person who brings harmonious passion together with them have a chance to achieve the work-life balance more. Also you can possess health, happiness and life satisfaction at the same time. Otherwise, you can spend your time on what you love, maybe even the activities outside work, for higher productivity, stress reduction and increased creativity levels. In this way, you will have a full energy to deal with ups and downs of your work and even on unexpected incidents or problems. According to a recent research at San Francisco State University, having a creative passion in your workplace can lead you from 15 to a 30 percent accomplishment at your work.

Scientists also suggest that doing your passionate tasks can boost your confidence and brainpower. There is no doubt that you will feel powerful and invulnerable even in your hardest moments when you are doing your favorite activities. For example, doing your tasks in support of artistic ways like painting creation can improve working memory and your decision making process under pressure. That’s why, working with passion and strong desire can make you less burden but more resilient as ever.
