REES Africa (Renewable Energy and Environment Sustainability for Africa) is a youth-led nonprofit organization founded by Yetunde Fadeyi to enable energy access in rural and marginalized communities. The organization also promotes environmental sustainability as a lifestyle across rural communities in Africa.

The ultimate goal of REES Africa is to preserve the environment for future generations by living sustainably whilst domesticating equal accessibility to clean energy. The organization works through rigorous research in identifying communities undergoing climate problems and difficulty in accessing clean energy. Through crowdfunding, grants and internal donations, they raise meaningful capital to start their mission.

Through the collaboration of young volunteers between 17 to 40 years old, passionate about creating change in underserved communities, REES had impacted eight communities with their target solutions on solar electrification, sustainable environment practice, and proper waste disposal education.

Recently, REES lighted up two different communities - Lagelu and Sabokodji Island in Oyo and Lagos respectively, through households’ distribution and installation of free solar. These communities have spent two centuries without electricity. Their source of light is dominantly kerosene and palm oil lamps as well as battery-powered flashlights. Thanks to REES, they now enjoy clean solar energy.

Moreover, nursing and pregnant mothers, households with respiratory and related health issues, and families with children studying were given priority as beneficiaries. The organization carefully picked indigents and trained them how to troubleshoot the devices when problems occur.

Other projects by REES organization were climate change awareness march, cycle for air pollution and beat plastic pollution campaign.
