Losing a brother can break you but for Patrick Moore, it took a different turn. He channeled that pain and grief into giving back to society thus, the birth of “The Moore Foundation” (TMF).

“Everything will be fine” was the words of Patrick’s brother, Jeffery when he was diagnosed of leukemia. Patrick had barely started a life in the corporate world at that time and with his parents living abroad, his younger brother became his responsibility.

Life with Leukemia was not easy for the Moore brothers. Patrick shuffled between work and taking care of his brother. He mentioned that the treatment is expensive and at that time his brother required a minimum of two sessions in a month depending on his response to treatment.

“It was stressful, queuing for several hours for a test, blood transfusion. Waiting for the results didn’t make it easier either”, Patrick stressed.

Despite that, the kindness and selflessness these brothers showed to other patients in their hardest time was priceless.

“The idea of The Moore Foundation came about during one of our visits to the hospital for Jeffrey’s treatment. We had observed the hassle other patients encountered in either one or all aspects of the treatment procedures. We thought of doing something to help these people and spontaneously paid the bill for a test of a random person we met who required some money to get the test done.”

In December, 2014, Jeffery passed after a sudden complication at the hospital. Patrick could not believe it till he saw his brother lifeless on the bed.

“I felt that there was a hollow in my stomach and my heart was shattered into thousand pieces. My brother was dead. Was all the sacrifices I made had been for nothing?” He asked himself.

In the days leading to Jeffery’s burial, Patrick remembered their idea of starting something to assist children and their families in similar situations.

“I had to see the light in the darkest moments of my life. Jeffery symbolized hope. His courage and hope were an inspiration to all around him. It was what he wanted.” Patrick said.

The Moore Foundation (TMF) started the next year 2015, after Jeffrey's burial. It is a non-profit in Ghana that focuses on financial support and providing efficient healthcare platform for children less than 18 years diagnosed with Leukemia and their families.

The foundation continues to collaborate with individuals and other organizations to partake in the fight to change and touch lives in Ghana. The foundation’s goal is to help established a reliable health-care for Ghana and even in the African region.

Moreover, TMF also runs street campaigns to raise awareness about leukemia and how the public can take action to help out like cash donations or in-kind such as blood donations and volunteerism. With a team of volunteers and donors, TMF passionately administer care to relieve these children from stress and loneliness. The foundation sees to it that, patients and their families do not fight the battle alone.

TMF has a long standing vision to build and operate a world-class cancer facility in Ghana. This will create an avenue for employments and explore technological opportunities within the foundation’s space that will eventually contribute to the advancement in healthcare service in the country. More importantly, that foundation also wanted to cultivate the attitude of service in the youth of Ghana, to have the spirit of duty to serve the vulnerable.

“We are able to help the underprivileged in their darkest time, with even opportunities to live their lives and achieve their dreams. The world is indeed full of possibilities”, Patrick concluded.
